It could be that my mood on this excessively gloomy morning is just right for this song, but I think this may be the finest performance of “Schizophrenia” I have ever heard, or at least an equivalent to the version from Sister. Whereas all of Sister has this wonderful grainy photocopy-of-a-photocopy NYC-in-ruins sound to it, the tone here is crisp and clean — the same feelings, but for a new version of the city. And yes, ultimately, every Sonic Youth song is about NYC to me, in some way. I’m sure it’s the same for them too.
