Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks “Jagged and Expanding”
In all the excitement about next year’s Pavement reunion tour, it seems that a lot of people are indifferent to the notion of temporarily sidelining Stephen Malkmus’ current band for the chance to see him perform the old classics. I totally understand wanting to see Pavement again, but I think that it is very foolish to underrate his post-Pave material. This set covers most of the highlights of Malkmus’ music in this decade — epics like “1% of One” and “Real Emotional Trash” had to be sacrificed for space, sorry — and should make a case for both the overall continuity of the man’s body of work, and his evolution/maturity as a songwriter and performer.
