Last night I went to Dyker Heights to check out the over-the-top Christmas decorations. (Catherine has some high quality shots from her own visit this week, if you want to get a sense of what it’s like.) I was particularly fond of these weird animatronic kids in wooly white suits (are they sheep? snow children?) that appeared on one of the professionally decorated lawns. I desperately wish that I had a video camera so you could watch this one repeatedly make a gesture that, combined with the uncomfortable, unhappy look upon its face, seemed to say, alternately, “Why???” and “Repent!!!” Also, this one was stroking this wampa-like creature over and over and over and over as the beast’s head sorta shook in approval.
